The Big Show by Pierre Clostermann Often described as one of the best Aviation/Wartime books ever written.It sold over a million copies when first released, but was heavily 'cut' down due to paper rationing. This lovely condition 2004 Hardback was the first 'complete' account as written by French RAF Pilot Pierre Clostermann DSO DFC, who was one of the RAF's top scoring aces of WWII. From the aerial dogfights to his observations of Wartime Britain. A great book, by a great pilot ! Twelve Days In May Hardback Book Brian Cull, Bruce Lander & Heinrich Weiss tell the story of the 12 days in May 1940 during the Battle Of France & the Low Countries how Hurricanes of the RAF held off the might of the Luftwaffe until on a handful of the original 100 aircraft remained. Grumman Aircraft Since 1929 by Rene J Francillon The Putnam series of Aviation Books are famous worldwide for their amazing detail of the Aircraft Types in each volume. This is one of the slightly harder ones to find, on Grumman Aircraft since 1929 by Rene J Francillon. Ken Johnson joined No.1 PRU as an 18 year old, & soon found himself in an unarmed Spitfire high above enemy territory, & served in both the RAF & the USAAF during WWII. This entertaining book fills the previous gap of books about this brave group of people, & the vital role they played. Richard E Turner was awarded the DFC x 2, the Silver Star, the Air Medal with 12 oak leaf clusters, Croix de Guerre with Palm, EAME Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, and ATO Ribbon with one Bronze Star !. Richard fought during WWII & the early part of the Korean War. He was the Commanding Officer of the 356th Fighter Squadron of the 354th Fighter Group in February 1944. Believed to have been shot down during the Battle Of Britain, by 'Stapme' Stapleton, it tells of his two escapes during WWII. You Are Not Sparrows by SJ Carr A superbly written book by Wing Commander S J Carr, an absolute character who flew for about 40 years, joining the RAF in 1929. Spanning most of the World, his RAF service included both Operational and peace time flying, including Fighters, Bombers, Seaplanes, but this book is a light-hearted account of his flying between the War Years. Polish Airmen in the Battle of Britain This is a terrific fully detailed book, written in Polish and English, giving an amazing insight into the Polish Pilots who flew for the RAF during the Battle of Britain. Who, without would have been a much more difficult battle. Each pilot listed has his full RAF career in detail, and many of their aircraft are shown, with squadron colours etc to the rear of the book. Superb ! Also comes with a First Day Cover signed by Boleslaw 'Gandi' Drobinski, one of the Polish 'Few'. The Blue Arena-Bob Spurdle Robert 'Bob' Spurdle was one of the New Zeland pilots that fought during WWII. Credited with 10 Victories during the war, Bob came over to the UK, and flew Spitfires with 74 Squadron initially. Later serving with 91 Sqn during the latter part of the Battle of Britain. There Shall Be Wings-Multi Signed Book An excellent book by Max Arthur, 'There Shall Be Wings' covers RAF history from 1918 to 1993. It tells the story of New Zealand born Raymond Brown Hesselyn who flew with 249 Squadron during the summer months of 1942 in Malta. Along with fellow squadron member George Beurling, they were to become a vital part of the aerial warfare over Malta with a total of 38 victories between them, Beurling being the highest scoring ace of the campaign with 26. Udet was a WWI Ace in the Luftwaffe, with 62 aerial victories, second only to his commander Manfred von Richthofen, and was the highest scoring German pilot to survive WWI. During WWII Udet was in charge of the purchase of all the aircraft etc for the Luftwaffe, a HUGE responsibility. 'Fighter General' is the life story of Adolf Galland. I think the fact that James Doolittle introduces the book, Curtis E LeMay wanted a quote to be printed on the cover, & Douglas Bader became a really good friend Post War, says how much Galland was respected by his adversaries.
