Commemorating 'Operation Chariot', known as the St.Nazaire raid, one of the most courageous of WWII, on 28-3-1942. (5 Victoria Crosses were awarded following this raid, the most for one conflict during the whole of WWII). This great cover c/w the signatures of No,2 Commando Michael C.Burn MC, who was captured during the raid, and subsequently awarded the Military Cross for his bravery, & Lt. This cover commemorates the loss of HMS Ark Royal on 14-11-1941 after being torpedoed. Some great artwork and a special date stamp, are complemented by the signatures of Captain Neil Rankin CBE, who was the first Fleet Air Arm pilot to fly the Harrier, and later was Commander of the later HMS Ark Royal, and Rear Admiral Colin Cooke-Priest who Captained several ships during his naval career as well as being Assistant Director of Naval Air Warfare during the Falkland’s War. Commemorating Operation Neptune during the D-Day Landings, this great cover is signed by John Oldroyd Forfar MC, a medical officer with 47 command Royal Marines, landing on Gold Beach. He remained with Commando throughout the European Campaign, and was awarded the Military Cross, & Major Michael Reynolds (Croix de Guerre), Royal Marines Captain with 48 Commando landing on Juno beach during the landings. Sir Tasker Watkins VC Signed FDC

A fitting signature of a VC First Day Cover, is that of Sir Tasker Watkins VC. Part of an assault on a German machine gun post, after other officers were killed in the approach, Watkins continued to lead the group, leading a bayonet charge against 50 armed enemy infantry and then single-handedly taking out a machine-gun post to ensure the safety of his unit. He was the first Welsh member of the British Army to be awarded a VC during the Second World War. Price :- £22.00 +p+p

James Harold Doolittle was an American military general and aviation pioneer who received the Medal of Honour for his daring raid on Japan during World War II. Showing the Gloster 'Whittle' flying over RAF Cranwell 15-5-1941, this cover is signed by Air Commodore Edward M.Donaldson CB, CBE, DSO, AFC, who served with 151 squadron flying Hurricanes during WWII, and was credited with 11 aerial victories, & 10 'probables'. He went on to command the 1st British Jet Sqn in 1941. Donaldson also set an Air Speed World Record in 1946 of 615.78mph in a Gloster Meteor. Price :- £6.00 +p+p

A really nice presentation piece detailing Ernest Brian Trubshaw's RAF and Civilian flying career, comes with a rare First Day Cover commemorating the Very First Concorde flight (2-3-1969), but date stamped on the 3rd, and this is signed by Brian Trubshaw. Brian was the co-pilot alongside Andre Turcat on the French Flight, and flew the Concorde on its' very first UK flight on the 9th of March 1969, and was very much involved with all Concorde's test programme. Commemorating the disbandment of 1107 Marine Craft unit in 1972, this cover is signed by Luftwaffe Aces, Johannes Steinhoff, Erich Rudorffer, and Kurt Kuhlmey, as well as the pilot that 'flew' the cover. This is suitably & very nicely, signed by Basil Gerald Stapleton who served with 603 Sqn flying Spitfires during the Battle of Britain. This cover is part of the Special U-Boat series they did, and comes signed by Helmut Mohlmann. Helmut initially served on light cruisers and Torpedo Boats before joining the U-Boat Service. in April 1940. He captained U-143 and later U-571, and was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. Herbert started his Naval career on the Graf Spee, before joining the U-Boat section, receiving pre war training from none other than Karl Donitz. One of Frank Wootton's most famous paintings, was his image of the Dambusters Raid on the Dams of the Ruhr Valley. This one showing the breaching of the Mohne Dam. Lovely condition First Day Cover signed by Richard Todd who played the part of Guy Gibson in the Dambusters Film. Often overlooked was Richard's own 6 year WWII Military career, in the Yorkshire Light Infantry, a Paratrooper with the 6th Airborne, being dropped into France during D-Day in 1944. It comes signed by Generalleutnant Martin Harlinghausen who specialised in Anti Ship Warfare, destroying 22 ships during WWII, and also Major General Carroll W.Colpin USAF, who commanded 133 Eagle Sqn in the UK, and was credited with 11.5 aerial victories in WWII.(No.22 of only 25 covers produced). Neville Duke joined the RAF in 1940. In September he joined92 Sqn at Biggin Hill. He moved out to fight in the Middle East with 112 Sqn following the advance through N.Africa into Italy. He was the 8th highest ranking RAF pilot in WWII with 28 victories. Although best known for designing and building the superb Autogyros, and his role as 'James Bond' in 'Little Nellie' in You Only Live Twice, Wing Commander Ken Wallis joined the RAFVR 1939. In 1943, McCampbell assumed command of Air Group Fifteen, which destroyed more enemy planes and sank more ships than any other air group in the Pacific War. Alexander 'Ben' Gunn joined 501 Squadron in 1943 straight from his training at Cranwell. He then went on to join 274 Sqn in 11 Group flying Tempest MkVs. He became chief test pilot for Boulton-Paul post war, and became the first pilot to eject from a Delta Wing Aircraft, and also the first to Fly 'Fly-By-Wire' on all 3 surfaces. Here we have an Escape From New Britain First Day Cover that has the very rare signature of Japanese Air Ace Saburo Sakai. Sakai, enlisted in the Navy in 1933, age 16. He took part in many major battles during WWII, but was badly wounded on 7/9 1942, losing an eye. Despite this, he returned to fly again. In over 200 aerial combats, Sakai never lost a wingman. Here we have a Manfred von Richthofen Cover, with a now very rare Luftwaffe Signature to obtain, that of Johannes Weise. Weise was credited with 133 Aerial victories in 480 Missions, (+ 75 Unconfirmed), and was awarded the Knights Cross with Oakleaves and Swords. This Joint Air Training Scheme FDC is signed by Lt.Col.Doreen Dunning. Doreen was the first South African woman to be called upon to volunteer for full-time war service on 01 June 1940. She was only 22 years old when she became the Officer Commander of the South African Women's Auxiliary Air Force (SAWAAF), with the rank of Major. Roland was in the RAF during WWII and in 1943 became chief test pilot at RAE Farnborough flying 300 types of aircraft including those captured from Germany ! In 1946 as a test pilot he joined Vickers until 1949 when he joined A.V.Roe as Chief Test Pilot and was heavily involved in the AVRO 707 Delta Winged Aircraft. Roland flew the full size version, known as the 698, on its' maiden flight, and this was the forerunner of the much loved Vulcan. Signed by Roland Falk. Price :- £5.00 +p+p (Sold).

One of my favourie FDCs from the collection as it's addressed to a WWII veteran, David Hunt who served with 257 Sqn during the Battle of Britain. On 18th August Hunt probably destroyed a Ju87 and on the 31st he damaged a Me110. He was shot down in Hurricane L1585 on 3rd September and baled out, severely burned. He was one of the early 'Guinea Pigs' receiving ground breaking surgery for his burns. The cover is signed by John 'Cats Eyes' Cunningham. A rare cover Price :- £18.00 +p+p (Sorry sold)
