This cover commemorates the loss of HMS Ark Royal on 14-11-1941 after being torpedoed. Sir Tasker Watkins VC Signed FDC

A fitting signature of a VC First Day Cover, is that of Sir Tasker Watkins VC. Part of an assault on a German machine gun post, after other officers were killed in the approach, Watkins continued to lead the group, leading a bayonet charge against 50 armed enemy infantry and then single-handedly taking out a machine-gun post to ensure the safety of his unit. Showing the Gloster 'Whittle' flying over RAF Cranwell 15-5-1941, this cover is signed by Air Commodore Edward M.Donaldson CB, CBE, DSO, AFC, who served with 151 squadron flying Hurricanes during WWII, and was credited with 11 aerial victories, & 10 'probables'. A really nice presentation piece detailing Ernest Brian Trubshaw's RAF and Civilian flying career, comes with a rare First Day Cover commemorating the Very First Concorde flight (2-3-1969), but date stamped on the 3rd, and this is signed by Brian Trubshaw. Brian was the co-pilot alongside Andre Turcat on the French Flight, and flew the Concorde on its' very first UK flight on the 9th of March 1969, and was very much involved with all Concorde's test programme. Commemorating the disbandment of 1107 Marine Craft unit in 1972, this cover is signed by Luftwaffe Aces, Johannes Steinhoff, Erich Rudorffer, and Kurt Kuhlmey, as well as the pilot that 'flew' the cover. This cover is part of the Special U-Boat series they did, and comes signed by Helmut Mohlmann. Helmut initially served on light cruisers and Torpedo Boats before joining the U-Boat Service. in April 1940. He captained U-143 and later U-571, and was awarded the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross. One of Frank Wootton's most famous paintings, was his image of the Dambusters Raid on the Dams of the Ruhr Valley. This one showing the breaching of the Mohne Dam. Lovely condition First Day Cover signed by Richard Todd who played the part of Guy Gibson in the Dambusters Film. Often overlooked was Richard's own 6 year WWII Military career, in the Yorkshire Light Infantry, a Paratrooper with the 6th Airborne, being dropped into France during D-Day in 1944. Neville Duke Signed FDC

Neville Duke joined the RAF in 1940. In September he joined92 Sqn at Biggin Hill. He moved out to fight in the Middle East with 112 Sqn following the advance through N.Africa into Italy. He was the 8th highest ranking RAF pilot in WWII with 28 victories. Awarded the DSO, DFC, OBE &AFC, he went on to become a very successful Test Pilot, setting several world speed records over the years. Neville Duke cover signed by the man himself. John Cruickshank VC Signed Dams Cover

This very nice condition First Day Cover commemorates the 60th Anniversary of the Dams raid, and uses Robert Taylor's stunning image, 'Operation Chastise'. It also has an unusual stamp, 'Boy VC, 16' which tells the story of John (Jack) Cornwell and his gallentry on board HMS Chester during the Battle of Jutland. The FDC Title is 'Dowding and the Battle Of Britain' and this series were signed by BOB pilots. This particular cover is signed by James 'Ginger' Lacey. He flew with 501 Squadron during this time, claiming 18 Victories during the B.O.B. He was awarded the DFM and Bar, and was Mentioned in Despatches for this early in 1941. Eric Brown Signed First Day Cover

Captain Eric M 'Winkle' Brown signed on his own Test Pilots cover RAF TP36. Eric, was a British Royal Navy officer and test pilot who flew 487 types of aircraft, more than anyone else in history. James Doolittle & Peter-Eder Signed Cover

This cover is signed by General James Doolittle, who was awarded the Medal of Honour for personal valour and leadership as commander of the Doolittle Raid, a bold long-range retaliatory air raid on some of the Japanese main islands on April 18, 1942, four months after the attack on Pearl Harbour. One of the most famous Test Pilots, Jeffrey Quill, OBE, AFC, joined the RAF in 1931 through to 1936, leaving to become test pilot with Vickers, flying Wellingtons, Wellesleys etc. He then flew the prototype Spitfire, taking over as Chief Test Pilot with Supermarine. He served with 65 Sqn during the Battle of Britain, and with the RNVR 1943-44. He flew over 5,000 hours in 90 types of aircraft ! He continued working with the Aviation industry until his retirement. Adorned with a Churchill Centenary stamp, this is a very special cover as it comes with the signature of Colonel Paul Tibbets who was the pilot of the B-29 that dropped the Atomic bomb on Hiroshima. Celebrating the start of operational service for the Lockheed Ventura in the RAF, May 1942, this cover is signed by Group Captain Leonard Trent VC, DFC. New Zealander Trent was part of a daring raid on a harbour in Amsterdam using the Ventura. He was the only aircraft to reach the target and drop its' bombs. This First Day Cover is a nod towards Australian expert Pilot & Engineer, Harry George Hawker. He came to the UK in 1912 joined the Sopwith Aviation Company getting his flying licence that year, becoming their test pilot after setting several high publicity records for the company. Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the start of the design of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, this cover is Signed by American Philip Rassmussen. Philip was one of the few USAF pilots to get into the air on December 7th 1941 during the Japanese raid on Pearl Harbour. Roland Beamont DSO DFC Signed First Day Cover

Roland's Flying career won't fit into this small space, but his full history c/w the cover. WWII started with 11 group on Hurricanes, posted to 87 Sqn not long after. He saw action in France & Belgium, returning to England for the Battle of Britain. His DFC was awarded in 1941.In 1943 he became test pilot with Hawkers, testing Hurricanes, Typhoon & Tempest. This is signed by Sir William F.Dickson DSO, AFC who was a Royal Naval Air Service aviator during the First World War, a senior officer in the Royal Air Force during the inter-war years and a Royal Air Force commander during and after the Second World War. Williamson Signed FDC

FDC for the First British Squadron specifically formed for night bombing, (No.100 Sqn), on 1st of February 1917. Cover signed by Squadron Leader J.C.Williamson MBE who flew with the squadron in 1918 and carried out 31 raids. He was shot down and captured, but escaped twice. Eventually sent to Danholm prison fot 'difficult' prisoners ! Repatriated in 1918 he went on to serve in WW2 in South Africa promoted to Sqn Leader and awarded the MBE. Nice Condition Cover. Ken Wallis Signed FDC

Although best known for designing and building the superb Autogyros, and his role as 'James Bond' in 'Little Nellie' in You Only Live Twice, Wing Commander Ken Wallis joined the RAFVR 1939. He was an operational Pilot in Lysanders before converting onto Wellingtons on which he flew 36 operational missions over Germany and Italy. David McCampbell Signed

This 40th Anniversary of VJ Day FDC is in lovely condition and comes with the rare signature of Captain David McCampbell of the US Navy. In 1943, McCampbell assumed command of Air Group Fifteen, which destroyed more enemy planes and sank more ships than any other air group in the Pacific War. McCampbell destroyed 34 airborne enemy planes, the greatest number of enemy planes that an American pilot ever shot down during a single tour of combat duty. Price :- £18.00 +p+p (Sorry now Sold).

James Carne & R.F.Martin Signed

Richard 'Dicky' Martin was awarded the DFC twice during WWII, and received the AFC and OBE at a later date. He was Chief Test Pilot for Gloster Aircraft in 1953, and later test pilot for A.V.Roe & Hawker Siddeley. Also signed by Col. James Power Carne, VC, DSO, DL. A.E.'Ben' Gunn Signed FDC

Alexander 'Ben' Gunn joined 501 Squadron in 1943 straight from his training at Cranwell. He then went on to join 274 Sqn in 11 Group flying Tempest MkVs. He became chief test pilot for Boulton-Paul post war, and became the first pilot to eject from a Delta Wing Aircraft, and also the first to Fly 'Fly-By-Wire' on all 3 surfaces. Saburo Sakai Signed

Here we have an Escape From New Britain First Day Cover that has the very rare signature of Japanese Air Ace Saburo Sakai. Sakai, enlisted in the Navy in 1933, age 16. He took part in many major battles during WWII, but was badly wounded on 7/9 1942, losing an eye. Despite this, he returned to fly again. In over 200 aerial combats, Sakai never lost a wingman. Here we have a Manfred von Richthofen Cover, with a now very rare Luftwaffe Signature to obtain, that of Johannes Weise. Weise was credited with 133 Aerial victories in 480 Missions, (+ 75 Unconfirmed), and was awarded the Knights Cross with Oakleaves and Swords. The only first day cover I've seen in many years of collecting signed by the famous female pilot Diana Barnato-Walker. Suitably adorning the cover which celebrates the 50th year of the ATA in 1989. Doreen Dunning Signed FDC

This Joint Air Training Scheme FDC is signed by Lt.Col.Doreen Dunning. Doreen was the first South African woman to be called upon to volunteer for full-time war service on 01 June 1940. She was only 22 years old when she became the Officer Commander of the South African Women's Auxiliary Air Force (SAWAAF), with the rank of Major. Very much one of the sought after signatures of WWII by collectors, that of Field Marshall William Joseph Slim, KG, GCB,GCMG,GCVO, GBE, DSO MC, adorns this Reconquest of Burma Campaign Cover. Roland.J.Falk OBE AFC Signed FDC

Roland was in the RAF during WWII and in 1943 became chief test pilot at RAE Farnborough flying 300 types of aircraft including those captured from Germany ! In 1946 as a test pilot he joined Vickers until 1949 when he joined A.V.Roe as Chief Test Pilot and was heavily involved in the AVRO 707 Delta Winged Aircraft. Roland flew the full size version, known as the 698, on its' maiden flight, and this was the forerunner of the much loved Vulcan. Signed by Roland Falk. Price :- £5.00 +p+p (Sold).

Karl Kemmel Signed FW190 photo

Again, not a cover, but a nice 9" x 7" B+W photo of a Focke Wulfe 190, signed by Karl Kennel who flew 957 missions and was credited with 34 victories, and was awarded the Knights Cross with Oak Leaves. Gallantry Cover Sent to 257 Sqn Pilot signed by John Cunningham

One of my favourie FDCs from the collection as it's addressed to a WWII veteran, David Hunt who served with 257 Sqn during the Battle of Britain. On 18th August Hunt probably destroyed a Ju87 and on the 31st he damaged a Me110. He was shot down in Hurricane L1585 on 3rd September and baled out, severely burned. He was one of the early 'Guinea Pigs' receiving ground breaking surgery for his burns. The cover is signed by John 'Cats Eyes' Cunningham. A rare cover Price :- £18.00 +p+p (Sorry sold)
